i couldnt find a way to uninstall the AOL anti virus.. i deleted the folders, but dont know how to clear the registry. finally i ended up reinstalling windows :/ though you can install AVG antivirus on top of this crap

It`s odd that AOL doesnt distribute AVS (kaspersky) anymore, now they offer “McAfee® VirusScan Plus” which is free only for AOL mail users..

Does anyone know if it’s possible to activate AVS even if AOL stopped distributing it as of Aug 1, 2007? I recently downloaded the setup file from a Wikipedia link (since AOL doesn’t offer it anymore from their website), so I obviously missed out on the opportunity to activate the AV.
I have a few other questions regarding this as well.
Would I be missing out on program and definition updates if I don’t register?
How long do I have to register before I’m locked out? Any information would be great since I would really like to continue to use this AV since it was highly rated.

Alfie, are you sure Active virus shield is closing your applications?? Anyway, you can uninstall by going to Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.. Find AOL Active Virus Shield and uninstall.

Try to go through the online process again (like a new user, but you don`t have to install the newly downloaded file), if that doesn`t help, try different email, maybe AOL doesnt like your email :/
